Disclosure: I am obsessed with stationary. I love Moleskines, Filofaxes, Staedtler and Pilot pens. I am fascinated with washi tapes, journals, diaries, sticky notes and shaped paper clips. I thought it would be fun to share this interest in a for on a regular blog feature. Every Tuesday I will post an entry, video, links, images or pictures with some fun and interesting things related to Stationary.

Let’s start with this amazing video I came across on YouTube – “2016 Japanese Stationery Wonderland In Tokyo Japan” – I envy host, Lisa Wallin, who got to visit so many amazing Japanese Stationary stores, try their products and create her own.

My personal favorites:

– creating, mixing your own color of fountain pen ink.
– the view of rows and rows of Washi tape (see video snippet at 4:51 – 4:55)
staple free stapler. handy with kids!
Morning Stationary Club is something I would attend and have fun if there was one in our area
– a highlighter that will “black-out” words when you snap it with your phone and a special app. Great idea for studying on the go. No need to carry index cards with you
– and a wrist paper band that you can use to write anything you want?! (video at 21:26). How may times would you write on your hand a reminder? Now you can use a wristband that is durable and the ink will not smudge! Brilliant idea!

It’s so interesting to me that so much fun and new stationary come out of Japan, and fascinating (at least my impression gathered from the internet) – there are many more stationary stores, people loving stationary, developing new products, coming up with new ideas – in Japan, than other countries.

First month of summer.  I have so many plans, ideas and goals for this month.

  • On June 1 I started a #100DayChallenge. I selected goals and will try to achieve them in this 100 days. One of them is to update all my websites; second – to resume blogging regularly in English (here) and at my Russian blog. Some entries will be the same, others will be different; third goal is to exercise regularly, eat healthier and improve my physical shape/state
  • I am drawing Blue things this month for my #12ColorProject for the Year of Creative Habits class
  • June is a birthday month for my daughter
  • Also this year is the first time in 4 years that she (and me) will get an opportunity to relax and enjoy summer instead of being at the day camp all day every day. Yay for no FT job!
  • Yesterday 6/6/16 was a 13-year anniversary of my arrival to United States.
  • I want to visit newly reopened SFMoMA
  • FInish updating design on 2 websites
  • Photograph family photo-session
  • Go to the ocean
  • Sell my car – if you are in SF Bay Area and car shopping – I am selling 2011 Mazda 6 – email me at contact.halinav@gmail.com for details and pictures
  • See Mama Mia Musical (done 6/4)
  • Go to Yosemite
  • Blog regularly – at least one article a week on each blog
  • Record at least 1 video (did one 6/6)  and publish at least 2 on my YouTube channel.

What are your plans for June?

SAMSARA

Samsara is an incredible movie!

I was mesmerized for the whole duration of it. It doesn’t have dialogues, words, but it is sooo relaxing and moving at the same time. It’s a visual meditation. It shows places and people, makes connections between different topics – some unrelated, some on the same subject but from the different angle. This movie made me think about connections to things like food , work, factories, joy and meaning of things we do daily. Things we choose to do and how some of them are just a custom, just “because” we were raised certain way, or born in this country vs. another.

“Prepare yourself for an unparalleled sensory experience. Filmed over a period of almost five years and in twenty-five countries, SAMSARA explores the wonders of the world from sacred grounds to industrial sites, looking into the unfathomable reaches of man s spirituality and the human experience. Photographed entirely in 70mm and transferred to 4K digital projection format, SAMSARA s mesmerizing images of unprecedented clarity illuminate the links between humanity and the rest of nature, showing how our life cycle mirrors the rhythm of the planet. Neither a traditional documentary nor a travelogue, SAMSARA is a guided meditation on the current of interconnection that runs through all of our lives.”

It’s a great movie to add to the collection – something that can be watched over and over again.

 The 100 Day Project - 2016
In 2015 I was drawing / painting all things associated with California. You can see my instagram posts here – #100DaysDrawingCalifornia and I will make a blog post with images soon
This year will be my second time participating in this project.
I’ve had lots an lots of thoughts, I created lists of things I can draw, paint, try …
Here are some ideas I considered:
  1. Shoes drawing
  2. Food drawing
  3. Taking pix of sky
  4. Writing postcards
  5. Collages
  6. Drawing cocktails
  7. New experiences
  8. Drawing cute houses
  9. Blogging
As you can see it ranged from drawing ones, and “people orientated” to some that will expand my boundaries as a person or artist.
In the end I’ve decided to concentrate on sharing my creative ideas and results online with #100DaysWebVisible
Here is why:
  •  I am already drawing and creating, especially for my #12ColorProject.  I am drawing every day, thinking of ideas, I also like trying new things and working on other side projects at this time. So I don’t have tome or energy to take on new medium or idea (as a full-time project) right now.
  • But i do have a need to start sharing my progress online. Too many times I would just create at home, in my safe bubble, show to my friends or family… and that’s it. I think it’s time to share the results of my creativity with the internet world and project is a best way to do it on the regular basis.

Lets Go! This is 001/100
